Planting an Apple Tree.
I recently planted a newly cultivated Apple Tree at a local Nursery, I wanted to get the children involved and interested in all aspects of gardening and they didn’t disappoint.
Thank you to the Elvetham Heath Day Nursery, Fleet, Hampshire (my Son’s nursery), particularly Dawn and Becky for arranging and allowing this to go ahead, and to the parents for allowing the children to get involved and interested in the great outdoors. It was good fun and seeing the genuine interest from all the Children was great. Digging the hole, filling it in, chasing bugs, tipping soil on each others heads (not on purpose) and all round good behavior towards the “magic” fruit tree made my afternoon, and hopefully theirs ! BIG thank you to Jack, Hannah, Freya, Odelia, Yasmin and Chester (he’s mine!) for all your help and enthusiasm.
I would like to thank The London Orchard Project – recently featured on BBC One’s Inside Out London – for giving us the newly cultivated “Core Blimey” Apple tree.
The London Orchard Project are a London based Charity planting and managing new apple, pear and plum trees / orchards in communities and schools across London (and surrounding areas) to encourage learning and understanding of home grown fruits and their benefits. Urban farming across the UK is increasing in all communities, from simply having something to plant and maintain to using the harvested fruits to make food and drinks to enjoy is becoming more and more popular.
