Ascot Front Garden

Design and Build

This garden was a pleasure to design and build. I’ve always enjoyed the smaller front gardens as you need to make a bigger impact on a smaller scale.

The client invited me round to discuss different options before I designed the final garden. We talked about her needs and I did some rough sketches in the house until we both decided on an idea. The client wanted to enjoy the front garden more as it received most of the sunshine through the day and as the house was at the end of a close she enjoyed privacy too.

The design was to have a small area for a bench, some lawn for their young Daughter to enjoy and a simple bed to maintain, all with a more modern designed feel. The final design had an informal finish by using a circular lawn edged with mirrored ends (Patio and Bed), this gave it a designed feel, the bar-less picket fence at the front kept the modern but still informal feel top the garden, the bed was planted with Hebe, Coleus, Marguerite and Petunia’s.  The client had already purchased some Buxas topiary balls and was adding the pots and a bench once they found some they liked.

Our front garden was in need of a complete renovation, the grey slate was patchy and the shrubs and trees were overgrown. We wanted the area to be more family-friendly with a lawn and a small area for a bench to enjoy the late afternoon sunshine.

Ben listened to our ideas and requirements and delivered a modern and attractive design proposal with suggestions for planting and hard landscaping. He then worked extremely hard to clear the space, cutting the sandstone patio beautifully and positioning the bar-less picket fence which has really added to the garden aesthetic.

Ben was great to work with; he offered suggestions and was happy to discuss any tweaks or changes. He worked in a tidy manner and kept to our budget, he has a real passion for gardening and landscape design and has given us a garden to enjoy every day,’
